Sea Monsters Timeline

The Overview:
Millions of years ago water covered much of Earth and those seas teemed with ancient reptiles and fishes.  An interactive timeline introduces you to these mysterious creatures.

The Site:
Using 3D models created for the National Geographic IMAX film, Sea Monsters, the Flash-driven timeline and map let visitors explore when these animals existed, where they would have lived, and what they would have looked like.

Moving through each prehistoric era from Triassic to Late Cretaceous, users can access dozens of creature profiles. These profiles include descriptions, original artist’s renderings of reconstructed animals, and photographs of fossilized remains.  Some of them are presented in 3D, where the creatures leap out toward the visitor, before settling back into the profile box’s confines.
